Divided by Resistance
Winner of ICA Art and Innovation award, sponsored by Toshiba
Following extensive experiments into mysterious phenomena connected with sleep, this interactive installation allows the audience to communicate with Gilchrist’s sleeping mind. Gilchrist, the performer, sleeps connected to a multimedia database of graphic representations of brain activity. Audience participants recline in the ‘seat of consciousness’, a unique chair constructed by Juggernaut which will respond to changing brain states by interfacing with digital electroencephalograph output. Gilchrist’s responses are projected into the installation, displaying his neurological shifts of consciousness.
